My First Convention Cosplay Experience

Cosplay, Con Haul, and Comments!

As I said in my last entry, I went to the convention wearing my Patchouli cosplay, and it was a really nice experience!

I was so happy when my wig arrived on time. It was already styled and ready to use, so I didn't have to do much besides cutting the bangs because they were a little too long.

I have a friend who is actually a cosplayer, so I asked them to do my makeup for me. I rarely wear makeup, so my skills are nowhere near as good as theirs.

Besides that, I also used press-on nails for the first time! It was... an experience, lol. Since my nails had little stones on them, everything kept getting stuck. The wig was especially difficult—I was really struggling to put it on because the hair kept getting caught on my nails. I also felt like I had lost 80% of my hand coordination...

Since I was too embarrassed and not quite ready to wear a cosplay on public transportation, I packed everything into my backpack and left home wearing only the makeup and nails.

I was lucky enough to go to the convention with Hespi, a good friend of mine who was super nice and carried my backpack the whole day! I got them a couple of things at the convention as a way of saying thank you. Honestly, I don't think I would've had nearly as much fun without them.

People were incredibly nice to me at the convention. Some of them even asked to take pictures with me! I was like, no way!!

I got a lot of kind comments about my cosplay, and I'm really glad people seemed to like it as much as I did.

I think Touhou is pretty well known in some parts of the world, but here I actually had people tell me how unusual it was to see a Touhou cosplay. Someone even gave me a sticker that said, "Your cosplay is beautiful."

I don't consider myself an outgoing person, so I was dying a little on the inside with the amount of attention I was getting. That didn't make the experience any less wonderful, though.

It was definitely something outside of my comfort zone, but I think this year—and even a little bit of last year—has been a lot about that: stepping out of my comfort zone and doing things I would've avoided before because of fear or shyness. In return, I've made memories that I'll probably carry with me for a very long time.

And I FOR SURE want to do this again!

There are so many characters I'd love to cosplay, especially from Touhou.

There's another convention happening in November, and it's very likely that I'll wear my Patchy cosplay again. I'm super excited because my friends are going to be there with me too.

So, what character might I cosplay next year?

Hmmmmm...

I'll give you a hint:

Bunny.

Stay tuned to find out!

Now, let's move on to the CONVENTION HAUL!!!

idk!

I went in with a mission: get as many Touhou-related things as possible!

Sadly, there wasn't anything featuring Patchy, lol. Most of what I found were stickers (and honestly, I got way too many of them), but I also picked up a Marisa keychain that's going straight into my ita bag!

(I should probably make a blog entry about "What's in Catto's Ita Bag?")

idk!

A bunch of JoJo stuff!

There was so much of it at the convention that it was actually hard to decide what to get, especially because all of the artists were amazing.

Personally, Part 7 is my favorite, so of course I picked up a few things from it. I'm not the biggest Vento Aureo fan, but this Giorno poster really spoke to me. I guess I just really like colorful art!

And of course, the sticker set with the Steel Ball Run characters mixed with Chiikawa was an absolute must-have. Such a goofy thing, lol.

idk!

More stuff from various things I like!

The Niko keychain also went directly into my ita bag.

I absolutely love the Draculaura sticker. Sadly, I didn't get the artist's information, but it's definitely one of my favorite things I bought.

And who would've thought I'd find merch featuring the Puzzle Bobble characters and Blinx? They even glow in the dark!!!

Also, a random moth sticker that I liked. Lol.

idk!

idk!

I already knew this artist was going to be at the convention and that they were bringing this amazing Yume Nikki poster, so this was the one thing I knew beforehand that I was going to buy.

Sadly, it got a little ripped at the top at some point, and I have no idea when it happened. Still, it's amazing!

I also picked up an equally amazing sticker set, which is another one of my favorite things from the haul.

And that's everything I got!

Overall, a pretty damn good convention haul.

Now for this next part...

I've been thinking about it for a while. Should I do it? Shouldn't I do it?

The thing is, most of the people reading this have probably already seen my face. And honestly, I was way too excited to keep it to myself.

So yeah.

Here you go.

This is the picture I'm going to share.

idk!

THANK YOU FOR READING!!!

See you in the next entry.

Today's phrase is:

"No feeling is final."
